Advantages of Using a Craigslist Spanish Tutor
Advantages of Using a Craigslist Spanish TutorIs a Craigslist Spanish tutor really needed? There are many who might argue that it is not. Some people are just not satisfied with their English speaking skills and want to learn more Spanish in order to enhance their lifestyle and work opportunities. If this is the case, then it is very understandable that you would need to search online for a Craigslist Spanish tutor. What is also very helpful is knowing that this service is very popular and provides a good resource of information.Of course, Craigslist is a great place to find resources if you are willing to search in the right places. There are many different agencies that provide services that will get you to the top of your class. If you are not satisfied with the resources that you have, then it is advisable to ask more about the company and the courses they offer. Ask to see the students who have enrolled and will be giving you feedback. If you find that you are not satisfied with t he courses, you can always do an online search for a free or an easy way to be educated. Most websites offer listings that can help you find out which language and resources are the best and easy to use.Once you find a list of courses that are offered on Craigslist, you are ready to start looking for a consultant who can help you get your classes started. Keep in mind that the teachers are independent contractors, so you need to check the reputation of the company before you hire one. It would be very difficult to trust anyone as a potential teacher, especially when you have no idea about the credentials of the individual. Try to ask questions about the reviews of the site. Some might think that Craigslist is not the most reliable source of learning, however it is one of the best because of the available resources. This means that you are able to find very good resources for a lot less money than what you would pay in an agency. Keep in mind that it takes time and effort to build a g ood reputation is very important when you are searching for a good resource. As a last comment, I would say that hiring a Craigslist Spanish tutor is a good idea because of the convenience of using this service. Remember, it is the students who will be able to make the difference.

Using Khan Academy for GMAT Prep
Using Khan Academy for GMAT Prep GMAT MBA Admissions Blog If you don't know what Khan Academy is, watchthis. When it comes to GMAT prep, using Khan Academy can be a very effective tool for refreshing basic skills, but there's a catch. KA content is aligned to thecommon core state standardsfor math. The GMAT is NOT aligned to the common core. (read more) Using_Khan_Academy_for_GMAT_Prep Unless you know what you're doing, using KA will result in you learning a lot of math that you don't need to know for the GMAT, and not learning content that will help you in unanticipated ways. Don't get me wrong - I love math, and I love KA, and I highly recommend using it to learn all kinds of thing... after you get an awesome score on the GMAT. I'm a coach on KA (something anyone can register for - not an official title) and most of my GMAT students are students on KA as well. That way, I can control what they learn and don't learn. Obviously, I can't do that for all of you, but I can give you a list of the common core standards that will appear on the GMAT: First, you should register for an account on KA. Then, go to thecommon core map Now, check out the attached pdf for a list of the standards you should work on. Keep in mind that you may already know a lot of this, but I'm trying to be as thorough as possible. *** One more thing - there is some GMAT prep material on KA. Salman (Sal) Khan solves all the quant problems in the 11th OG in a series of 95 videos. Sal's a brilliant guy, but this isn't really test prep. His approach to almost all the problems is a frontal assault - none of the tricks and tactics that successful test takers use all the time.In addition, the 11th OG is hard to find, the videos are hard to navigate even if you have the 11th edition, and, finally, the guy behind GMAT QUANTUM (Mahendra Dabral), does the same thing much better - and with recent OG's.Check it out. -- John L Easter Founder: Owl Test Prep john@owltestprep.com 773.401.9445

Bilingual Program
Bilingual Program Bilingual Program What is the Bilingual.hu Program? We are a private, non-profit, tuition-based educational enterprise operating in Hungarian state educational institutions. As such, we are a public-private partnership that has been providing unique educational opportunities to hundreds of Hungarian families since 2001. What does Bilingual.hu teach? We operate our nationally accredited program in three primary schools and two kindergartens in Budapest and its environs. Our primary school program encompasses 1stthrough 8thgrade and involves nearly every subject in the curriculum, making it possible for teachers of diverse backgrounds to draw on their training and experience and deliver quality teaching tostudents aged 7 to 14.In our kindergarten program, children aged 3 to 7 are immersed in a bilingual environment using the one person, one language model. Within this context, we provide high-quality early childhood education in English through play and everyday situations as well asset activities, resulting in successful language acquisition from a very young age. What does Bilingual.hu offer that makes our program different? (1) We provide professional developmenttraining opportunities at multiple points throughout each school year, starting with in-depth orientation and training in August prior to starting the school year. We work with top teacher trainers, both from within Hungary and internationally. (2) We offer an innovative approach to teaching, including the interactive and communicative approach favored in EFL environments as well as Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) in our subject lessons at all grade levels and in the kindergarten. As such, we co-teach: teachers hold lessons jointly and alternate in the leading role, switching languages throughout the course of the lesson. Students thus study simultaneously in both English and Hungarian. We are also innovating in terms of technology in teaching, integrating various online learning platforms into our program and rolling out the use of tablets in our primary school classrooms. (3) Our program also offers the chance to work alongside highly experienced Hungarian teaching professionals, whose knowledge and expertise are part of our programs offerings to our staff members. We work very closely with our co-teachers, so we can learn a tremendous amount from them as we go along. (4) For all these reasons we believe Bilingual.hu offers unrivaled opportunities for development. We hope and believe that working in our program will allow for both rapid and broad professional development as well as the personal growth that comes out of taking on a challenge and becoming part of a tightly-knit teaching team and a truly unique learning environment. Need A Brainpower Boost Salute The Sun
Need A Brainpower Boost Salute The Sun Photo by yogicphotos via Flickr. According to a recent study, a mere 20 minutes of Hatha Yoga practice significantly improved participants (a group of female undergraduate students) speed and accuracy of recall on memory tests, providing them with a heightened ability to retain information and maintain focus. A common sequence of poses in Hatha Yoga is the Sun Salutation, and consists of various, flowing poses that incorporate partial inversions that direct blood flow to the brain. This sequence is excellent to perform during those mornings when you need to get your blood flowing without having to leave your apartment or dorm. The video below will guide you through the sun salutation movements: Traditional Sun Salutation Also, for all you manly men out there, youll never have to question your masculinity while doing yoga again, thanks to the rise of Broga. Hare Pose Photo courtesy of lovemyyoga.com The hare pose, also known as Sanangasana, is another inverted yoga pose with brain-boosting benefits. Its known to provide maximum extension of the spine, increasing elasticity and increasing the flow of fresh, oxygen-rich blood to the brain, and can be done following the sun salutation. Feathered Peacock Pose (Pincha Mayurasana) Photo by David Martinez via The Yoga Journal The Feathered Peacock Pose is essentially one of the ultimate inversion poses, with advanced versions not requiring the use of a wall. However, since most of us probably arent advanced yogis, it would be best to use a wall to rest your feet on while you hold the pose. In addition to drawing blood flow down to the brain, you are also drawing it down to your lungs and working your upper body. Tai Chi Photo by Joel Santos Photography via Flickr. Tai Chi, an ancient Chinese martial art that focuses on slow, meditative movements, has been shown in a study conducted by the University of South Florida to increase brain volume and improve mental activity, and may even delay the onset of Alzheimers disease. In the tai chi group, we saw brain growth of one-half of 1 percent over eight months, said James Mortimer, lead researcher and USF professor of epidemiology and biostatistics in an interview. Like yoga, tai chi is a low impact and continuously-flowing exercise requiring heightened mental awareness. Many scientists speculate that this mental engagement may be the reason for their significant impact on the brain. High-Intensity Interval Training Photo courtesy of swide.com Commonly referred to as HIIT, this type of training is high-impact and involves alternating bouts of high-intensity exercise followed by a rest period, which is repeated for a short duration, typically 20 to 30 minutes, or even as little as 8 to 10 depending on how hard youre working. An example would be similar to a Tabata workout (a form of HIIT), where you would perform 20 seconds of all-out intense exercise, followed by 10 seconds of rest, repeated for eight rounds. High-intensity exercise triggers the release of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), a neurotrophic factor that plays an important role in the survival of neurons and synapse plasticity. In a study involving high-intensity exercise and BDNF, researchers found that, vocabulary learning was 20 percent faster after intense physical exercise as compared to the other two conditions. This condition also elicited the strongest increases in BDNF and catecholamine levels. The other two conditions within the study were low-impact running and rest, which essentially portrays high-intensity exercise as superior to low-intensity exercise in terms of cognitive improvement and learning performance. However, you may be wondering how this is possible due to the positive studies cited above mentioning the benefits of low-impact exercises on brain power and memory, which are seemingly contradictory; the bottom line is, while high-intensity exercise releases BDNF, low-intensity exercise like weight training releases an insulin like growth factor, which promotes neural survival in ways high-intensity exercise doesnt. Brain health seems to be more of a balancing act than a cut-and-dry system, which is why it is recommended to include a mixture of the previous exercises in order to reap optimal brain-boosting effects (just as long as this mixture doesnt constitute attempting to consume coffee while performing the Feathered Peacock Pose).
No Worries!
No Worries! I had been out of touch with my good friends at TutorZ for a few years now. It was a great experience working with those guys but, with school ending and my internship ending, it seemed like a good time to move on. Now and again I would regret going separate ways, because the folks that developed and create TutorZ.com were good people and I missed them sometimes. But, I already had a job and circumstances seemed to place me elsewhere. But they were good times up there being involved in helping get this great idea off the ground. Well, life goes on. I occasionally would receive a newsletter from TutorZ in my inbox, but would just delete it as those days were over and it felt kind of sad. Of course I wished them great success, but somehow I felt sad moving on. Time passes and a few years later everything in my life had change. The job I had for many years was ending, by my choice, as I worked for greedy people who had no interest in the well-being of others really. Just profit, profit, profit. I have nothing against money but I have seen people work that had human kind on their mind as well. I may seem a little sentimental and unrealistic but not so. It is easy to get jaded and cynical and caught up in the let me get mine mind set. How much do you need? More was always the answer. Looking back at TutorZ, there was an example of people thinking, what can we create that would be useful and helpful to many people that would cause no harm to others? Well TutorZ did it, a service which helps to connect students and tutors in a simple inexpensive way. This kind of positive healthy thinking was an attraction to me back then. And they did it. TutorZ was moving along building momentum with little to no real major marketing maneuvers. Just by word of mouth TutorZ was growing. So, one day, last summer, I opened my email and there was a new Newsletter from TutorZ.com. For no special reason I decided to click âopenâ instead of âdeleteâ and the first thing that caught my eye was a video. The image was of my old friend and boss Dirk and his girlfriend Lilly. The title read âSightseeing in Dubaiâ. Well now Iâm hooked in, I had to watch it. Who wouldnât want to go to Dubai, the playground for the wealthy? I was amazed at how tightly put together this video was, including the music. I enjoyed it so much that I sent an email to TutorZ sending best wishes to Dirk and the crew. A few days go by and Iâm in my office at home. I am applying for jobs that I could do from my own home now. Iâve had some physical challenges for a long time but now they were much worse and I decided that I would take pressure off myself by finding a decent job where I didnât have to sit on the freeway for hours and drag myself into the office every day. Then the phone rings. Itâs Dirk. Wow. How are you? Whatâs going on? It was great to talk with him after all those years had gone by. We got caught up a bit, and before I knew it I was offered a telecommuting job with TutorZ. I could not tell you how excited I was. This really seemed to come out of thin air to me. But actually it came out of a DSL line. I really enjoy the idea of being back with the TutorZ gang and helping to move it forward. TutorZ has always been a forward thinking company. My duties and responsibilities have grown and I am growing with it. I must say that I could not come up with a subject that doesnât have a tutor to help you with. Mathematics, English, Science, Engineering, Sports, caring for yourself physically and emotional, Itâs all here. The diversity and spectrum of people I deal with is wonderful. Especially my coworkers at TutorZ. Like the kids use to say; âItâs all good!â And if your struggling with a course at school, like the kids say now; âNo worriesâ, TutorZ is here! No Worries! 12 Strategies Resources to Take You Beyond Buenos DÃas
12 Strategies Resources to Take You Beyond âBuenos DÃasâ Suzy S. Interested in learning how to speak Spanish? Get on track for success with these helpful resources, as shared by San Jose, CA tutor Gina C... I remember sitting for countless hours in my high school Spanish class, learning verb conjugations and memorizing meaningless dialogues about what you were going to buy your Mother for Motherâs Day. I was so bored, I passed notes to my friend to pass the time. Of course, I wrote them in español just in case I got caught by el professor. I read Don Quijote and wrote an essay on it. By the end of my senior year in high school, I was in AP Spanish, but could not carry on a simple conversation. Later, when I attended a Mexican wedding, I couldnt converse at all. Has this happened to you? Do you feel like you have studied Spanish for many years, but cannot carry on a basic conversation? Do you want to learn Spanish conversationally or even fluently for your business or social reasons, but donât know how or where to begin? Well forget everything you learned in high school or college Spanish class and stop aiming for perfection. Learning a new language is not impossible, but it takes dedication and a good program. This article lists tips on how to best get your message across and what resources are available to help you learn or take your Spanish beyond âBuenos dÃas.â I have come across many individuals who have studied Spanish in the past and want to be conversational, but are hindered by bad memories of high school classes. If your aim is to be communicative, forget all about all those grammar rules. No one cares if you make a grammar mistake or if you donât roll your ârâ sounds. You learn to speak Spanish to communicate for some real purpose; in the real world there are no contrived dialogues and no grades. So how can you improve? If at all possible, set up your day so that you can have opportunities to speak Spanish. Even if you are taking a course, or studying online, you are going to have to go out and practice. Here are some strategies to try and resources you can use: Immersion Going Abroad: Going abroad forces you to speak and live the language. If you interact with the locals and not just those working at hotels and restaurants, you will have to communicate in Spanish. The other benefits are that you will gain a new perspective by learning a new culture. Domestic Immersion: Contrary to popular belief, you do not have to go abroad to learn a language, especially when there are so many Spanish speakers in our own country. After all, thatâs why you want to learn Spanish, right, to communicate with people in the US? Ideas to get you started: Head to the Hispanic part of town and strike up a conversation. Go to the local taquerÃa and order in Spanish. Volunteer at a clinic, food bank, or school where there are many Spanish speakers. This will be your opportunity to put into practice what you are learning and do some good in the community. Resources to Improve Your Spanish Skills You have a couple of choices: the do-it-yourself (DIY) method and the âdo-it-with othersâ method. Keep in mind that learning a language on your own is a challenge as you do not have a professional to consult with regarding any of your questions or doubts and you donât have a partner to help hold you accountable. If you choose the DIY method, you may also want to supplement your learning with a weekly language tutor, teacher, or coach. In the DIY realm: Books: There are thousands of books about how to learn to speak Spanish, and to decide which book is best for you depends on what your current skill level is, and what your goals and objectives are. Do you want to learn to speak Spanish for business, for a particular industry, for travel, or to communicate with your partner? You will want to find a book that focuses on your skills and objectives and that covers grammar as well. Many times a pronunciation aid is necessary, so you may want to consider a book that includes a CD or the phonetic pronunciation written next to the words. Rosetta Stone: Rosetta Stone offers a picture-based method for learning Spanish and many other languages, but it is quite expensive. The method does work and the program is good, but before laying out that much cash, ask yourself if you will really sit in front of the computer for hours clicking on pictures to learn how to say âThe ball bounces,â and âThe boy is riding the horse.â Studies show that adults learn best when the material is relevant and important to them. So, if you want to learn to speak Spanish for your house-building trip to Mexico, or to open bank accounts for your Spanish-speaking clients, how important is âThe ball bouncesâ to you? Online courses and other resources: Trent University Spanish Language Exercises Duolingo App for iOS and Android MosaLingua App for iOS and Android Fluencia StudySpanish.com In the âdo-it-with-othersâ realm: Adult Education Courses: Many high school districts offer adult education, or through the Recreation Department of a city. Try an online search for adult education in your area and you may be pleasantly surprised. The cost is typically low and you do not have to deal with complicated college enrollment and grades or difficult parking. The downside is it may be a crowded classroom and will not be tailored to your specific need, but for a budget-conscious student, it is worth checking out. Community College and University: Community colleges are another option for learning a language. You will have live interaction with a professor and you can ask any questions you may have and get quick feedback. The drawback here is that most students are taking the course for a grade. Emphasis will be placed on performance and correct grammar. You may sit through hours of lectures on verb conjugation and memorizing vocabulary lists. Private or Small-group Lessons: Want to learn Spanish quickly and effectively? A package of small group, semi-private, or private lessons is a good way to go. Make sure you are hiring someone with years of teaching experience and a credential or two to his or her name. Many people have suffered from the false hope that they can learn Spanish from someone just because he or she is a native speaker of the language. If you think about it, would you be qualified to teach somebody English? The instructor needs to know about teaching methodology, grammar, how adults learn best, and so on. Armed with this knowledge, you can see how TakeLessons.com can be a valuable resource for you. Even if you choose the DIY realm, you can hire a tutor, teacher or coach to answer your questions, help you with pronunciation, or simply to keep you accountable. Good luck with your studies!
